Planning to drive along this road too!
Anyone on here been to (or live in) Door County during the fall? S upposed to be making a trip up there with family this Sunday.... I should have had it planned out by now.... but hey, I’m a college student and it’s been a crazy, stressful couple weeks.
Anyway, current plan is to leave the Chicago area around 5am and drive to Sister Bay, then from Sister Bay, drive up to Northport. Seems like Northport is a must see according to many websites.
From there, I haven’t quite figured out where to go. Cave Point County Park and Ellison Bay Bluff Park are also on my list....
We won’t be staying overnight, so this’ll be a day trip. Hoping to leave the area by 5 or 6pm.
Any suggestions?

The girlfriend I dated 11 years ago (I’ m old now apparently?), her parents lived in Door County so we made a few trips up there from Madison. Usually just to their house though and not to much of the surrounding area. I do remember that Egg Harbor was kinda nice.
Also, while it’s not exactly the right season, Door County is known for its cherries. If you can’t find them fresh, definitely buy a pie, or eight.
dumpsterfire!

I’ve been there in the fall a couple times. We’ve always been there during the Sister Bay Harvest Festival though which you missed by a week.
There are plenty of wineries up there these days if that interests you (as well as a distillery and a couple breweries).
I always have liked Sturgeon Bay, being a bigger town there’s a little more to do and it’s not only tourists. If you want a place to eat breakfast Hot Tamales has fantastic food. If you like history there is a Maritime Museum here as well which is neat.
Peninsula State Park is always a good place for hiking or just for some great views and there’s an old light house to see.
If your around Ephraim near lunch time Chef’s Hat has some really good deli sandwiches.

The guy that coached my soccer team in high school opened up Hatch Distillery up there recently if distilleries are of interest to you . The theme of a lot of it is honey so there is non alcoholic things around there as well.
Al Johnson’s restaurant is pretty notable up there as well. From what I recall many years ago the breakfast is excellent. They’re famous for having goats on the roof.

I’m in the Wrong part of Wi, but it probably is prime time for fall colors there. The last week or two was peak fall color time up here in on the South Shore.(Confusing ass name of those area, it’s the south shore of Lake Superior, but the north shore of Wi) Minnasota’s shore is called the North Shore.

My childhood best friend currently lives up there. Went up there this summer to attend his wedding. 10 hours from Cleveland, sheesh. It was goregous. The water fronts everywhere are immaculate, every restaurant feels like a home cooked meal, the roads can get windy and scenic with the fall colors. I was splitting time between Egg Harbor and Sturgeon Bay . For a dive-bar food and drink feel, Mike’s Port Pub was awesome. And if you end up having one too many sodas, there is an Inn attached to it. And Cave Point is a must for a view.
